When trying to understand your website from Google or a users eyes then approach it like a small child. Users can be lead through the site via your direction if it becomes confusing or difficult or if it doesn’t simply explain what it is then users get frustrated and will leave and search engines will not be able to ascertain the important information needed to rank the site, similar to a child frustrated with a new toy.
